Key takeaways:

  • ISC Konstanz has supported 8 PV manufacturing projects in India since 2017, with recent collaborations focused mainly on TOPCon technology

  • Process optimization efforts with Indian manufacturers have contributed to industrial-scale TOPCon cell efficiencies reaching 25.5%

  • Beyond manufacturing support, ISC contributes to India’s PV ecosystem through technical workshops and collaborative industry events

Indian PV cell manufacturers have come a long way from manufacturing multicrystalline cells to mono PERC, and are now advancing n-type TOPCon and even eyeing back contact (BC) technologies. Leading research and innovation center ISC Konstanz has played a role in this transition by collaborating with and supporting process optimization since 2017, starting with Adani Solar with n-PERT technology. Since then, ISC Konstanz has supported 8 manufacturing projects, of which 4 are TOPCon facilities. The fourth and latest is a collaboration with Solex Energy, announced at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2025 (see India’s Solex Partners With ISC Konstanz For BC Technology Transfer).

In a recent press release, ISC announced an industrial TOPCon cell efficiency of 25.5%, achieved by one of its Indian partners. ISC’s contribution includes technology transfer, process optimization, and on-site technical support for stable production with high cell efficiency. In 2023 and 2024, it collaborated with 2 Indian PERC cell producers to support process optimization: one with Asian process equipment of 2 GW production capacity, and the second with European equipment of 450 MW production capacity. Starting in 2024, all of ISC’s collaborations with Indian manufacturers exclusively focus on TOPCon manufacturing. In 2024, it supported an Indian TOPCon producer with process optimization of 2 GW production capacity using Asian equipment. In 2025, ISC collaborated with 2 Indian manufacturers with 1.2 GW and 500 MW manufacturing capacities, both using European equipment. The 25.5% TOPCon cell efficiency mentioned above was achieved by the manufacturer with 1.2 GW cell production capacity.

This efficiency in industrial-scale production by an Indian manufacturer demonstrates the capabilities of the Indian PV manufacturers to adapt and implement advanced high-efficiency solar cell technologies. ISC says its collaboration is strongly reflected in such achievements.

In addition to its support in manufacturing, ISC Konstanz also supports the Indian PV research and development segment by organizing workshops and technology events, in cooperation with universities and other partners. These workshops facilitate knowledge exchanges, device concepts, and future development pathways.

Radovan Kopecek, Co-founder and Director of ISC Konstanz, said, “We have been working closely with partners in India for many years, supporting both industrial ramp-up and the development of local technology expertise. Our goal is to enable our partners not only to successfully implement advanced production technologies, but also to further develop and optimize these technologies independently.”

The next workshop (GWPV) by ISC Konstanz, in cooperation with Christ University, TaiyangNews, and RCT Solutions, will be hosted by Premier Energies in Hyderabad in October 2026. ISC Konstanz played a role in bringing the Asian PVSEC conference to India, and the 40th PVSEC conference will be hosted in India in 2029.
