Key Takeaways
  • SolarSpace has introduced two new 1/3-cut solar module series with a bifacial dual-glass configuration

  • The SS9-66TD-N module delivers up to 750 W at 24.14% efficiency, while the SSA-68TD-N reaches 660 W at 24.43%

  • The modules feature a gapless design and independent electrical branches to improve reliability and shading tolerance

Solar cell and module manufacturer SolarSpace has introduced two new solar module series featuring 1/3-cut cells. The new modules aim to improve power output and reliability while reducing electrical losses.

1/3-cut technology divides a full-size solar cell into three smaller sections, reducing the current flowing through each section. According to SolarSpace, dividing each cell into three sections reduces the current flowing through each section to one-third of its original level, while resistive heating losses fall to one-ninth under comparable conditions. The company has also optimized its laser cutting process to minimize edge damage during cell separation. SolarSpace says its in-house cell manufacturing allows it to control cell quality before cutting and module assembly.

The new portfolio includes the SS9-66TD-N and SSA-68TD-N series, based on TOPCon technology. The SS9-66TD-N delivers up to 750 W at 24.14% module efficiency. Its datasheet lists a bifacial dual-glass design with 198 1/3-cut cells, measuring 2,384 × 1,303 × 33 mm and weighing 37.6 kg. The module has a bifaciality rating of 80±5%.

The SSA-68TD-N series offers up to 660 W at 24.43% efficiency. It features 204 cells and measures 2,382 × 1,134 × 30 mm, weighing 34 kg. The module uses a dual-glass construction and has a reported bifaciality of 80±10%. Both series support a maximum system voltage of 1,500 V DC and have a temperature coefficient of power of -0.29%/°C.

According to SolarSpace, the modules use separate electrical paths to limit power losses caused by shading and microcracks. The company says the design also helps reduce hot spots and operating temperatures, which could improve energy generation. Higher module power output may also help reduce balance-of-system (BOS) costs.

Both series have a gapless design and come with a 15-year product warranty and a 30-year power warranty. The datasheets specify annual degradation of up to 0.4% for the SS9-66TD-N and 0.35% for the SSA-68TD-N after the first year.
