Speaking at the TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on Solar & Sustainability, Hailiang Xu, VP Strategy & PV at TÜV Süd dwelled on zero carbon solar for a sustainable world, giving an example of how regulations can help the industry follow sustainable practices. Europe tops the list with with several such regulations, such as the Ecolabel system, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and its Recycling (WEEE), Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) directives. The solar industry will have a big emission contribution going forward as demand for solar increases, and having regulations and ensuing certifications from a 3rd party as TÜV Süd will help Chinese manufacturers expand their reach in such markets, he added.
The Conference took place on 30 March 2023 and viewed solar & sustainability from different angles – corporate decarbonisation strategies, low carbon vertically integrated module manufacturing and CO2 certification, to sustainable product sourcing, module recycling, and repowering of PV plants.
