Key takeaways:

  • Zählerfreunde’s SaaS platform offers utilities a white-label solution for managing and visualizing electricity, gas, water, and heating data

  • It includes CO₂ tracking and simulation tools that help consumers understand costs and emissions

  • The software aligns with Germany’s 2025 energy visualization compliance requirements (EnWG § 40 / MsbG)

Zählerfreunde, a Germany-based company, offers a white-label energy management software, which was a finalist in the Smart Integrated Energy category for The smarter E AWARD 2025.

The product is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that specifically caters to the needs of utilities. It provides a user interface that integrates time-of-use tariffs, visualizes energy and consumption data across electricity, gas, water, and heating, and intelligently manages the charging of electric vehicles. The key feature of the white-label product is that it allows utilities to offer this software under their own brand name.

Zählerfreunde states that the software functions across different browsers and devices. Upon client request, the company also publishes and maintains a mobile app for iOS and Android under the client’s branding. It can be integrated with common ERP systems such as SAP IS-U, Wilken, and Schleupen. It provides real-time electricity pricing based on the EPEX SPOT market. Similar to other energy management software, it also calculates consumption costs and notifies users when electricity prices are high or low, enabling optimized energy use and reduced costs.

According to Zählerfreunde, the modular structure of the SaaS platform allows utility companies to choose which data and features are displayed for their customers, depending on the agreed service package. The visualizations of energy consumption include dynamic electricity tariffs, costs, payments, market prices, CSV export, and automated energy reports, among others. The system also integrates CO₂ emissions tracking, offering consumers a better understanding of their energy-related environmental impact.

With an integrated home energy management system (HEMS), the mobile app features smart controls that optimize charging and discharging processes, and the system also supports various electricity applications. Zählerfreunde notes that the software allows manual data input from analog meters, thus catering to customers who do not possess smart meters.

In addition, the platform features a simulator that allows users to assess how adopting PV systems or batteries could influence energy costs and emissions, and it supports compliance with upcoming German regulations (EnWG § 40 / MsbG), which require utilities to provide graphical visualizations of customer energy data from 2025 onward.
