  • AfDB has launched a bidding process to select EPC contractors for a solar project in Eritrea
  • The 30 MW solar project will need to be built with an associated battery storage system and associated facilities
  • Part of the proceeds received from the bank will be used to make payments under the contract

Eritrea's Ministry of Energy and Mines has opened a solicitation process for EPC service contractors for a 30 MW solar PV plant, to be accompanied by a battery energy storage system (BESS) and associated facilities.

Previously, the ministry was looking for consultants to help with the bidding process for the project. Now, it has followed up with an EPC call for design, supply and installation of the Dekemhare Solar Project.

Part of the proceeds received for the project from the African Development Bank (AfDB) in April 2023 will be used towards payments under the contract.

In April 2023, the bank approved a grant of $49.92 million for the 30 MW project in Eritrea's Dekemhare, with a 15 MW/20 MWh storage facility (see 30 MW Eritrea Solar Project Moves Forward).

The call was issued by AfDB on behalf of the ministry on August 12, 2023 with October 17, 2023 as the last date to submit bids.
