Key Takeaways
  • Bangladesh’s BPDP has called for bids to develop a combined 2.605 GW AC solar capacity

  • Projects will range from 105 MW AC to 250 MW AC and will be located across 12 locations

  • BPDP will procure the power generated by these grid-tied solar projects on completion

The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDP) has opened a new call for 14 solar PV power plants to be grid-connected at 12 different places in the country. These represent a combined 2.605 GW AC capacity.

The 14 packages of this grid-tied capacity will need to be installed as solar systems ranging from 105 MW AC to 250 MW AC. The locations as specified by the BPDP are: Mymensingh, Chattogram, Gopalganj, Netrokona, Jashore, Dinajpur, Noakhali, Narayanganj, Kushtia, Pabna, Tangail, and Moulvibazar.

BPDP will be the procuring entity for the power generated by these projects on completion.

The tender was launched on March 19, 2025 on BPDP’s website, with May 28, 2025 as the last date for bid submission.

This round follows BPDP’s February 2025 call for 1.78 GW AC solar PV capacity across 19 locations in the country (see Bangladesh Invites Bids For 1.78 GW AC Solar Power Projects).

Bangladesh’s solar tenders are not attracting enough traction from investors as the BPDP did not receive a single offer in its 3 previous tenders launched in December 2024 and January 2025.

According to local news portal New Age, the interim government currently in power canceled all 31 renewable energy projects, representing over 2.6 GW capacity, which had some prominent global investors too. This has shaken investor confidence.
