EETC has issued a tender for 500 MW of solar PV capacity to be developed in the West Nile region of Egypt
Selected developers will design, finance, construct, own, and operate the project, with EETC acting as the sole offtaker
Pre-qualification submissions are open till May 11, 2026, according to the tender documents
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), operating under the country’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, has launched a tender for 500 MW solar PV capacity to be established in the West Nile region.
The project needs to be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. Selected developers will be required to design, finance, construct, own, and operate the project. EETC will be the offtaker for all electricity generated by this capacity under a power purchase agreement (PPA).
The tender is open to experienced local and foreign developers and investors with requisite technical and financial experience.
Launched on February 10, 2026, the pre-qualification round is open for submissions till May 11, 2026, according to details published on Arab Tender’s website.
Egypt’s overarching target is to achieve a renewable energy share of 42% by 2030, raising it further to 60% by 2040. At the end of 2025, the country’s total installed renewable energy capacity reached 9.4 GW with the addition of 1.8 GW last year, up from 7.52 GW in 2024, according to the ministry.
Recently, the country announced plans to bring online 3 GW of solar energy in 2026 to meet growing electricity demand, which is expected to increase by 6% to 7% during the summer months. The addition of 600 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) is also on the cards (see Egypt To Bring Online 3 GW Solar Energy In 2026).
