Key Takeaways
  • GUVNL has issued a tender for 500 MW grid-connected solar PV capacity

  • It includes up to 500 MW additional capacity under a greenshoe option

  • Projects can be located anywhere in India and don’t need an energy storage component

The Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), a state utility in India’s Gujarat, is inviting interested companies to participate in its latest solar PV competitive solicitation process. Launched under phase XXV, it intends to procure 500 MW of solar power from grid-connected capacity with up to 500 MW available under a greenshoe option.

It needs to be established on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis anywhere in India with inter-state transmission system (ISTS) connectivity. Winners of the projects can choose locations on their own. Winning facilities can also be located within an existing and grid-connected wind farm, provided spare capacity for renewable energy integration at the corresponding substation is available.

They will secure 25-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with successful bidders.

The minimum capacity for a single bid is 50 MW in the case of inter-state connected projects and 10 MW for State Transmission Utility (STU) connected projects. Energy storage is not required to accompany winning power plants.

According to the utility, this capacity will help it fulfill its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and meet the future requirements of discoms.

GUVNL launched the call on August 20, 2024, and the last date to submit applications in response to this request for selection (RFS) round is September 17, 2024 for online and September 19, 2024 for offline copies.
