The state-run utility in Mozambique, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is exploring the feasibility of establishing a floating solar power plant in Chicamba Reservoir of 44 MW Chicamba Dam in the country's Manica province, for which it is looking to hire consultants.
Interested consultants will be expected to provide technical, financial, economic, environmental and social impact assessment including financial model and grid integration study to EDM for the proposed project. A preliminary environmental and social impact assessment must be carried out to assess the impact on local flora and fauna. Assignment must complete within 14-month duration.
EDM said the overall aim of introducing a floating solar option is to ensure additional power generation utilizing existing open water surfaces which will help save arable lands for agriculture purposes.
It wilk make payments to selected consulting firm from financing request it has made to the African Development Bank (AfDB) towards the cost of feasibility studies.
Last date to submit expressions of interest (EOI) is January 28, 2022, according to tender announcement made on EDM's website.
