SJVN Limited, the state backed Indian hydropower generator, has issued an expression of interest (EOI) round to acquire hydro, solar and wind power projects in India. This EOI is open to independent power producers (IPP), power generation companies, power plant developers, state electricity boards, lenders, among others.

For solar and hydropower, projects offered can be under operation and maintenance or construction or survey and investigation stage. For solar power projects the proposed capacity desired is 25 MW and above, while for hydro projects there is no minimum capacity limit.

Wind power projects to be offered under the tender need to have a minimum installed capacity of 50 MW and should be at operation and maintenance stage.

According to the EOI, available on SJVN’s website, the last date of submission for tranche-I is May 31, 2021, and applications will be opened on June 1, 2021. Applications will still be accepted till March 30, 2022, and opened till March 31, 2022.

This planned acquisition is part of the company’s plans increase its ‘geo-strategic reach’ and have 25 GW installed power production capacity by 2040. Its current installed capacity is 2.015 GW, comprising 1.91 GW of hydropower, 97.6 MW of wind power and 5.6 MW solar power. SJVN had launched a similar tender in July 2020 (see SJVN Launches Tender To Acquire Hydro/Solar Projects).

In February 2021, it sought services for 1 GW open access solar capacity across India (see SJVN Launches Open Access Tender For 1 GW Solar).
