UPNEDA Launches 1.37 GW Solar PV Projects Tender

The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has invited expressions of interest (EOI) from potential developers for 1.37 GW solar PV capacity in Jhansi district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.  

This capacity will be developed on 5,508 acres of land, comprising 957 acres of government land and 4,551 acres of private land, distributed across 3 contiguous parcels in 9 villages. These are spread across Garautha tehsil and one contiguous parcel in a village of the Mauranipur tehsil, located in Jhansi.

UPNEDA will lease the 957 acres of government land for a period of 30 years for these projects on first come first serve basis. Developers will be required to arrange the lease or purchase private land on their own.  

UPNEDA estimates 1.213 GW capacity to be located in Gauratha, and remaining 164 MW in Mauranipur region.  

The state government plans to utilize wastelands for the installation of solar PV plants as it targets 22 GW solar capacity addition by 2027 under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy, 2022. Out of this, 14 GW is targeted to come from large scale solar power projects. 

Winning developers will be required to set up the 1.37 GW capacity on build-own-operate (BOO) basis. They will be at liberty to choose their own power procurers.  

UPNEDA opened the EOI on January 9, 2025. It will accept bids in response till January 31, 2025, and open the technical bids on February 2, 2025.
