Trina’s Smart Energy Storage System

Trina Storage's Elementa: A Smart Utility-Scale Energy Storage System

  • Trina storage’s Elementa is a fully-integrated and modular system that is designed to be easy to install and maintain
  • One of the key features of Elementa is its safety, with a built-in smoke, gas, and temperature sensor system, active ventilation system, and integrated fire suppression system
  • The modular design of Elementa makes it easy to scale up or down as needed, and the “above ground” busbar technology reduces the installation time by up to 70%, leading to significant savings in CapEx.

Trina Storage, the global energy storage business launched by Trina Solar in early 2023, has launched a new utility-scale smart energy storage system at Intersolar Europe. The product, called Elementa, is a fully-integrated and modular system that is designed to be easy to install and maintain. The solution was also a finalist for the ees AWARD 2023.

Elementa has a nominal storage capacity of around 2,200 kWh and is intended for storage applications with charge and discharge rates of between 0.25 and 1 C. One of the key features of Elementa is its safety. The system has a built-in smoke, gas, and temperature sensor system that can detect critical situations early on. It also has an active ventilation system and an integrated fire suppression system to ensure a high level of safety.

The modular design of Elementa makes it easy to scale up or down as needed, and the “above ground” busbar technology reduces the installation time by up to 70%. This can lead to significant savings in CapEx – beyond 5%.

Trina Storage engineers solutions for a wide range of applications, including standalone grid services and other applications for large industrial and microgrid projects. The company draws from Trina Solar’s long-standing solar heritage and industry know-how to solve the technical challenges of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), developers, and EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) companies in the rapidly transforming renewable energy landscape.

At Intersolar, Trina Storage also presented the success of the recent 50 MW grid-scale battery storage project at Burwell, Cambridgeshire in the United Kingdom. Trina Storage was engaged by the smart energy infrastructure company SMS plc to supply a full Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), one of the first projects of its kind in the UK. Once operational, the BESS will provide the UK’s National Grid with balancing services to ensure bestin- class frequency response, flexibility, and demand management.
