- This capacity has come up in 4 locations in the regions of Lopburi, Korat and Phetchaburi
- It will generate more than 3,000 MWh annually for Cargill to add to its efforts to cut down its GHG emissions from its global operations
Singapore headquartered solar energy provider Cleantech Solar has completed installation of 2.4 MW solar power capacity for the Thailand operations of US based food production company Cargill. It follows the latter’s virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) with Geronimo Energy in April 2020 for 200 MW US solar project (see US Food Producer Signs VPPA For 200 MW Solar).
The solar PV systems have been funded, built as well as operated and maintained by Cleantech Solar in 4 different locations in Lopburi, Korat and Phetchaburi regions. Altogether these will generate more than 3,000 MWh of clean energy annually for Cargill to aid it in its efforts to cut down its GHG emissions from its global operations.
With global oil giant Shell as its shareholder, for Cleantech Solar this project adds to its operational solar power plant portfolio in Thailand which is one among several other Asian markets where the company is active. “On top of the benefits these operating solar power plants provide to Cargill’s operations and the environment, they will also provide economic benefits in the form of cheaper-than-grid electricity,” said Cleantech Solar Founder and Executive Chairman, Raju Shukla.
In the Indian rooftop solar market, C&I rooftop solar system installer Cleantech Solar holds 15.34% market share—the largest among its peers in the space—as per Bridge to India’s September 2020 released India Solar Rooftop Map 2020 (see BTI: Indian Rooftop Solar Capacity Nearing 6 GW).
