525 MW RE Projects Changes Hands In Croatia

• Enlight is expanding into Europe with the acquisition of 525 MW under development renewable energy capacity
• It comprises 5 solar projects with a combined capacity of 386 MW and a wind facility of 139 MW
• The company plans to jointly develop the projects, starting construction by the end of 2023, through 2025

Enlight Renewable Energy, the Israel headquartered renewable energy company, has entered an agreement to acquire 386 MW solar PV and 139 MW wind energy capacity in Croatia. It calls this one of the largest and most advanced renewable energy portfolios in the country.

While Enlight did not identify the seller of these projects, it said the company will jointly develop this capacity with an unidentified firm. Currently, the 525 MW portfolio of 5 solar and 1 wind energy projects is at various stages of development.

Currently, the plan is to commence construction by the end of 2023 and continue till 2025.

Enlight said the acquisition will enable it to 'diversify its activity in Croatia to include significant solar projects, alongside its existing operational high-quality Lukovac wind project'.

Croatia aims to expand the share of renewable energy in its overall portfolio to 36% by 2030, from 28% now and further scale it up to 66% by 2050 under its Nationakl Energy and Climate Plan. It recently launched a 638 MW renewable energy tender, including 300 MW solar (see Croatia's 638 MW Renewable Energy Tender).

The Israeli company counts its Central and Eastern European renewable energy portfolio as 1.2 GW comprising 316 MW operational capacity. Projects are spread across Hungary, Kosovo, Serbia and Croatia. Back in 2021, it acquired around 490 MW DC solar portfolio in Spain (see Europe PV Snippets: Enlight,Solaria,Voltalia,Sonnedix,BSW).
