49 Companies Pre-Qualified For Saudi’s Round 3

A number of international solar power industry players are seeking a pie of Saudi Arabia’s 1.2 GW Round 3 solar tender for which 49 companies have been shortlisted to bid.

The Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) of Saudi Arabia has released the list of companies pre-qualifying for its 1.2 GW solar power tender. The tender was launched as Round 3 of its National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) in January 2020 (see Saudi Arabia Launches Solar Tender Under NREP Round 3).

REPDO doesn't mention how many responses came in for this tender, it only specifies a list of 49 names that have made the cut.

On the list are several big names from the world of international solar including US' First Solar, China's GCL System Integration, Powerchina, Canadian Solar, Jinko Power, Japan's Marubeni Corporation, France's Total Solar International, Indonesian utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Spain's Solarpack, Acciona Energia, Norway's Scatec Solar, Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power, Abu Dhabi's Masdar among others.

The 1.2 GW capacity will be set up in the form of 4 projects in 2 categories and for all the projects, a local content requirement of 17% is a must.

Round 3 tender is moving ahead even though the results for the 1.47 GW tendered in Round 2 are yet to be announced. A total of 28 companies were shortlisted for the request for proposal round in mid-2019 (see Saudi Arabia Launches RFP For 1.47 GW Solar Capacity).
