  • Ocean Sun has appointed Ole-Jørgen Myrtrøen as its new chief product officer, effective January 2026

  • Myrtrøen joins from Hydro Rein and brings experience across solar, wind, hydropower, and battery projects, along with a strong academic background

  • The company expects his expertise to support innovation and scaling of its floating solar membrane technology worldwide

Ocean Sun, the floating solar PV technology specialist from Denmark, has appointed Ole‑Jørgen Myrtrøen as the company’s new chief product officer (CPO) since January 2026.

He joins the firm, switching from renewable energy company Hydro Rein, where he held various roles for over 3 years. Myrtrøen also worked with Metier and Multiconsult previously.

His experience includes improving efficiency, aligning standards, and accelerating portfolio delivery. A PhD in fluid dynamics from Imperial College London and M.Sc. in Energy & Environmental Engineering, Myrtrøen has worked across solar, wind, hydropower, and battery projects.

Ocean Sun says his experience will help the team further strengthen its product strategy and drive innovation in floating solar as the company scales its solutions globally.

The Danish company uses a patented membrane-based design that allows solar PV modules to float directly on water, thus reducing material use. It claims this technology enhances cooling and improves energy yield compared to conventional pontoon-based systems.

In November 2025, Ocean Sun received what it termed the world’s first Type Certificate for a floating solar technology under the Bureau Veritas NI 631 scheme for marine renewable energy systems.

“Ocean Sun’s unique membrane technology is proving itself in tough conditions and is now part of some highly interesting projects around the world — including in countries I’ve worked closely with over the years,” said Myrtrøen. “I’m looking forward to building on that momentum and contributing to scaling this innovative floatingsolar solution globally.”

Myrtrøen has filled the position left vacant by the company’s previous CPO, David Mikal Knutsen, who joined along with Carl Petter Lehne as the chief operating officer (COO), also from Metier (see Ocean Sun Expands Senior Leadership Team With 2 New Hires).

In February 2025, Ocean Sun announced the appointment of Kristin Husby Mork as the company’s new chief commercial officer (CCO) (see Ocean Sun Hires Kristin Husby Mork As Chief Commercial Officer).
