- Brazil’s cumulative installed solar PV capacity has grown over 20 GW by the end of September 2022
- It comprises 13.47 GW of DG capacity followed by utility scale solar facilities bringing in 6.52 GW
- Between January 2022 and September 2022, Brazil installed 4.2 GW DG and 1.9 GW utility scale solar
As per data from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) of Brazil, the country now has exceeded the milestone of 20 GW cumulative solar PV installed capacity, adding as much as 10 GW since August 2021 when its operational capacity reached 10 GW (see Brazil’s Cumulative Solar Capacity Reaches 10 GW).
According to local solar energy platform Portal Solar, official statistics show large scale utility solar power plants make up over 6.52 GW of this capacity till September 2022. However, Brazil remains in particular a strong distributed generation (DG) market with this segment representing 13.47 GW of the cumulative.
Since the beginning of 2022, 6.2 GW solar PV capacity has already been installed with centralized projects adding about 1.9 GW and another 4.2 GW coming from DG installations.
That’s quite a fast pace of installations when seen against almost 12 GW it had installed till the end of October 2021, according to local solar association ABSOLAR (see Brazil’s Solar PV Capacity Close To 12 GW).
Brazil will hold its A-5 New Energy Auction, for which it registered 83 GW capacity including 55.82 GW solar PV, on October 14, 2022 after Aneel rescheduled it from the previous date of September 16, 2022 (see Latin America PV News Snippets).
