China PV News Snippets: LONGi, Zhonghuan Solar

LONGi Increases Silicon Wafer Prices Yet Again But PV InfoLink Says Zhonghuan Solar Keeping Prices From Rising Further; EPC Tender Launched For 100 MW PV

  • On August 12, 2020, LONGi once again increased its silicon wafer prices after changing the prices on July 24, 2020 and July 31, 2020
  • PV InfoLink says Zhonghuan Solar adjusted its prices for wafer on August 14, 2020 for G1 and M6
  • Qingdao Tianneng Heavy Industry will be building 300 MW wind power and 200 MW solar power capacity in Wuchuan County
  • China General Nuclear Power has launched a EPC tender for 100 MW solar PV capacity

LONGi raises silicon wafer price: LONGi Silicon has once again adjusted its silicon wafer prices, increasing these for the third time in a row on August 12, 2020. Previous adjustments were reported on July 24, 2020 and July 31, 2020. For G1 format, the price has been increased to RMB 3.1 ($0.39) per piece, and for M6 the price has been adjusted to RMB 3.25 ($0.0409) per piece, as per the price list shared by LONGi Silicon’s Director of Application Engineering and Key Customer Service, Yichun Wang on LinkedIn.

LONGi stated that for every RMB 3.00 ($0.43) per kg change in the price of silicon materials, the corresponding silicon wafer price adjustment was RMB 0.05 ($0.0072) per piece.

PV InfoLink has reported mono-Si wafer manufacturer Zhonghuan Solar to have adjusted wafer prices as well. On August 14, 2020 the company announced RMB 2.88 ($0.41) per piece for 158.75 mm (G1), 175 μm-thick mono-Si wafers, and RMB 3.03 ($0.44) per piece for 166 mm (M6) wafers. According to PV InfoLink, Zhonghuan is keeping wafer prices from soaring and hopes that this would ease the upward pressure caused by polysilicon shortage on solar cell and module segments a bit. The analysts believe short supply for silicon is expected to ease in Q4/2020.

Shortage of polysilicon in the market due to explosions at GCL-Poly fab in Xinjiang has pushed up prices for solar cells and modules recently. Tongwei was reported to have increased its solar cell prices second time in less than 3 weeks not too long back (see China PV News Snippets: Trina, Tongwei, 3 Gorges).

Qingdao Tianneng to invest in 500 MW RE capacity: Qingdao Tianneng Heavy Industry along with the Government’s of Wuchuan County have signed a framework agreement to develop 300 MW of wind power and 200 MW of solar PV capacity in the county for an estimated amount of RMB 2.6 billion ($374 million). The company will be responsible for investment, construction, operation and management of the capacity between August 2020 and July 2025, Polaris Solar Photovoltaic Network reported.

EPC tender launched for 100 MW Solar PV: China General Nuclear Power is soliciting EPC bids for a 100 MW affordable PV project in Weizhuang, Huaiyuan in Anhui province. The project needs to enter construction on September 6, 2020 and connected to the grid before December 30, 2020. As per the tender announcement, the actual installed capacity will be 106.392 MWp, of which the Huaihongxinhe plant capacity is 54.912 MWp and the Fangba plant capacity is 51.48 MWp. Last date to submit bids is September 1, 2020, reported PV Men.
