  • Borosil’s new grid-printed back glass increases the power and efficiency of bifacial solar modules
  • The small glass for solar roof tiles is compatible with most popular solar tile mounting systems while anti-glare glass reduces glare and reflectance
  • High Transmission Antireflective Coated (HTAR) solar glass enhances light transmission by about 0.4% to 0.5%.

Borosil Renewables launched several new products at REI 2023, including its High Transmission Antireflective Coated (HTAR) solar glass, grid-printed back glass in 2 mm thickness, anti-glare ‘Selene’ solar glass, small-sized glass for solar roof tiles, and glass for High-performance greenhouses. HTAR coated glass enhances light transmission by about 0.4% to 0.5%. (See Day 3 Highlights From Renewable Energy India Expo 2023)

Borosil, along with its European subsidiary Interfloat, launched 3 new glass products: a grid-printed back glass, a small glass for roof tiles, and an antiglare glass during Intersolar 2023.

The grid-printed back glass has been developed to address one inherent limitation of the technology. Bifacial, with its transparent rear cover, lets the incident light on inter-cell space to simply pass through, thus missing out on any gains from reflection, which leads to relatively lower power and efficiency ratings.

The grid applied glass, such as this latest one from Borosil, remains transparent in those areas where the cell will be placed and the inter-cell spacing area is printed with a white reflector. This grid printed 2 mm glass from Borosil is manufactured in Europe.

Solar tiles are becoming an interesting alternative to traditional roof tiles, especially in Europe. Catching up with the trend, Borosil has launched a small sized glass for such solar roof tiles. To overcome the challenge of processing and handling the corresponding smaller glass, Borosil has launched glass in small-sizes designed to be compatible with most popular solar tile mounting systems.

The third product is an anti-glare glass that is designed to reduce glare and bring the reflectance value below the benchmark value of 20,000 cd/m2. This product is designed to be used in solar modules that are installed at airports and other applications where glare is a concern. The other variant of the product called Deflect Pro can reduce the reflectance to below 10,000 cd/m2.
