JinkoSolar ships 300+ MW solar modules & 2,488 kWh ESS capacity to Blue Sun Group; Shanxi announces bid winners for 15 GW wind + solar; Huadian releases results for 6 GW PV module tender; NEA's update on China's solar capacity for 9M 2023; Runergy completes construction on cell fab.

JinkoSolar's 2023 shipments to Blue Sun Group cross 300 MW PV modules & 2,488 kWh ESS: Leading solar PV manufacturer JinkoSolar has announced that it has supplied the Australian distributor Blue Sun Group 300+ MW of solar modules and energy storage (ESS) capacity of 2,488.32 kWh as of the end of Q3 2023. During 6M 2023, JinkoSolar claims to have delivered 1 million 440W modules to Australia. "In 2023, our partnership with Blue Sun Group has significantly progressed. This achievement is attributed to Blue Sun Group's exceptional inventory management and secure transportation capabilities, supporting large-scale deliveries and logistics," emphasized Ms. Anita Li, General Manager of JinkoSolar APAC. Recently, JinkoSolar announced that it has been awarded the "Zero Carbon Factory" certification for its advanced green practices (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Shanxi Government announces winners for 15 GW wind + solar projects: The Shanxi Energy Bureau has released the results for the competitive deployment of 15 GW wind + solar projects. The 15 GW further breaks down into 7.37 GW solar and 7.7 GW wind capacity. On the PV side, Sany Group ranked 1st with 610 MW, followed by State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and China Three Gorges Corporation, winning 570 MW and 500 MW respectively. Other notable winners with a minimum award of 200 MW were: Datang Group, China Power Construction, Guangdong Energy Group, Jingneng Group, Fuhuan International, Guangdong Hengjian Investment Holdings Co., Ltd., and China Energy Group.

Huadian releases results for 6 GW solar module tendering: Huadian Group has released the results for its 6 GW solar module tendering launched on October 18, 2023. For the 1.5 GW p-type bifacial package (Section 6), JA Solar and LONGi were among the 4 winning bidders with bids ranging from RMB 1.057 to RMB 1.13/W, with LONGi bidding the highest. For the 4.5 GW n-type bifacial package (Section 5), JA and LONGi were again among the 7 winning bidders with bids ranging from RMB 1.09 to 1.19/W, with LONGi bidding the highest. The lowest bidding price of RMB 0.993/W, however, did not win.

China's 9M 2023 new solar PV grid connections total 128.9 GW: China's National Energy Administration has released the Photovoltaic power generation construction and operation status in the first three quarters of 2023. The highlights are as follows:

  • China added a total of 128.9 GW of solar power during 9M 2023, increasing 145% YoY, including 61.8 GW utility-scale solar and 67.14 GW distributed solar (of which 32.98 GW were residential solar)
  • As of the end of September 2023, China's cumulative grid-connected solar capacity totaled 520.4 GW, with utility-scale totaling 295.1 GW and distributed solar totaling 225.3 GW (of which residential solar contributed close to 105 GW).

For 9M 2023, Henan leads in the number of new PV grid connections with 10.73 GW, followed by Shandong with 9.59 GW, Jiangsu with 9.14 GW, Hubei with 8.83 GW, and Xinjiang with 8.82 GW. With 10.58 GW installed, Henan also led in the newly installed distributed PV capacity, followed by Jiangsu with 8.38 GW, Shandong with 7.36 GW, Anhui with 6.62 GW, and Zhejiang with 5.3 GW.

Shandong ranks 1st in terms of cumulative installed capacity, with a total installed capacity of 52.29 GW. Shandong is also the largest province in household with a total installed capacity of 24.48 GW, which is part of a total distributed installed capacity of 38.22 GW.

Runergy completes construction on 18 GW n-type solar cell fab: Solar cell & module manufacturer Runergy New Energy has announced that it has completed construction on its 18 GW n-type solar cell facility. The company has invested more than RMB 6.8 billion ($933.6 million) in 439-acre facility, consisting of 30 n-type high-efficiency cell production lines. The company says that this will be the world's largest n-type cell production workshop when complete, and will create more than 2,000 jobs. This year, Runergy ventured into the module business and is planning to have 21 GW of module capacity by the end of the year (see Runergy's Module Range For Different Applications).
