China Huadian Connects 500 MW Offshore PV Project in Hebei

State-owned power producer China Huadian has connected its 500 MW offshore PV project in Changli County, Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, to the grid.

The project forms part of the 1.8 GW Qinhuangdao offshore PV demonstration project and is said to be the first offshore PV project in Hebei to achieve grid connection.

Built over a 4.68 km² sea area near the Luanhe River estuary in Changli County, the project uses pile-fixed offshore PV arrays and is expected to generate around 770 million kWh of electricity annually.

LONGi Begins Mass Production of ACM Solar Cells

Leading solar manufacturer LONGi has begun mass production of its Advanced Contact Matrix (ACM) solar cells after completing gigawatt-scale pilot production and qualification.

According to the company, the ACM cell achieved a certified conversion efficiency of 27.6% from Germany's Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH), while an ACM module received TÜV Rheinland certification for a power output of 672 W.

According to LONGi, initial production data show ACM technology can increase mass-production cell efficiency by 0.2-0.3 percentage points and raise module power output by 3-5 W. The company said it has integrated ACM technology into its BC 2.0 manufacturing process and plans to expand production across multiple manufacturing sites.

Leon Zhang, President of LONGi Europe, discussed the company's utility-scale strategy, BC technology, and integrated PV-plus-storage solutions at Intersolar Europe 2026 (see BC Technology For Utility-Scale Market).

Xinjiang Raises Mechanism Electricity Prices for PV and Wind Projects

Xinjiang has announced the results of its H1 2027 bidding for new energy mechanism electricity prices, with both solar PV and wind projects securing higher prices than in 2026.

A total of 66 PV projects were selected, receiving a mechanism electricity price of RMB 0.259/kWh for 3.231 billion kWh of electricity. Another 30 wind projects secured RMB 0.230/kWh for 7.984 billion kWh.

In comparison, in the 2026 bidding round, awarded prices were RMB 0.150/kWh for PV and RMB 0.210/kWh for wind.

In May, Xinjiang approved its first batch of multi-user green power direct supply projects (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Global Solar Cell Production Reaches 757 GW in 2025

Global solar cell production reached 757 GW in 2025, up 0.5% year over year, according to a report released by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA). The association said production continued to grow, although the pace of expansion slowed further.

Global manufacturing capacity expanded selectively but contracted overall during the year. Capacity continued to increase outside Southeast Asia, particularly in India, while capacity adjustments accelerated in China and the 4 major PV manufacturing countries in Southeast Asia.

By the end of 2025, solar cell manufacturing capacity outside China but within Asia reached 113 GW, with most of it concentrated in India, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia.

CPIA noted that capacity reductions do not necessarily indicate permanent closures, as some production lines may be temporarily idled or subject to asset impairment rather than dismantled.

Deye Expects Over 75% Net Profit Growth in H1 2026

Inverter and energy storage system (ESS) manufacturer Deye expects a net profit of RMB 2.668-2.728 billion for the first half of 2026, a growth of 75.28%-79.22% year-over-year. It forecasts an adjusted net profit of RMB 2.493-2.553 billion, up 70.56%-74.67% from a year earlier.

The company attributes the growth to strong overseas demand for energy storage products, particularly in the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Rising demand for residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage systems was supported by volatile oil and gas prices and widening power supply deficits in overseas markets.

Deye reported 8.2% adjusted net profit growth for FY 2025 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
