Tongwei's plan to acquire Runergy may change

Tongwei has stated in its latest announcement that the company's plan to acquire Runergy (see Tongwei Makes Offer To Acquire Majority Stake In Fellow Chinese Company) may be adjusted or terminated. In August, Tongwei announced that it would acquire a minimum of 51% of Runergy's shares about RMB 5 billion ($690 million) through cash injection and the acquisition of related shareholders' stakes. Recent reports from multiple Chinese media outlets have highlighted Runergy's factory shutdowns in its overseas factories, including those in Thailand. This has raised questions about the progress of Tongwei's acquisition of Runergy. In response, Tongwei's announcement stated that due diligence, auditing, and valuation work for Runergy is still ongoing, and all parties are continuing negotiations on the transaction. There is a possibility that the original transaction plan may be adjusted or terminated. During the negotiation process, all parties are also actively exploring other integration schemes, said the announcement.

Recently, Tongwei Solar's PV Technology Center announced that its proprietary THC 210 heterojunction (HJT) module achieved a maximum output of 776.2 W with an optical conversion efficiency of 24.99% on a module size of 2,384 x 1,303 mm, according to TÜV testing (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

CECEP Solar launches mainboard listing process

Renewable energy project developer CECEP Solar has released a prospectus for a convertible bond offering as part of its mainboard listing process. According to the prospectus, it plans to raise RMB 295 million ($40.78 million). The proceeds, after deducting issuance costs, will be used to construct a 900 MW solar PV power station, including 450 MW from two solar + energy storage projects, a 150 MW fisheries-PV Integrated project, and 3 agri-PV projects totaling 300 MW.

For the first 9 months of 2024, the company reported a revenue of RMB 4.77 billion ($660.45 million), which was a decrease of 25.93% year-on-year, and a net profit of RMB 1.26 ($174.69 million), a decrease of 10.00%.

QW Solar’s biodiversity restoration solution included in China’s National Project

HJT maker QW Solar has announced that the biodiversity restoration solution highlighted in its 2023 ESG report has been incorporated as a case study in China’s National Overseas Firewall Plan. This solution encompasses case studies, methodologies, patented practical models, and satellite data usage models. The report shows that QW Solar has minimized environmental impacts during construction, enhancing local biodiversity in and around the plant area at its HJT cell and module production base in Shandong Province. By the end of 2023, the Shandong base had green plant coverage of 25,000 m2, including approximately 150 m2 in office areas, with 463 trees and around 3,450 m2 of lawn restored. QW Solar states that this solution offers a cost-effective self-evidence mechanism for Chinese overseas companies facing challenges from the EU CSDDD Act and potential high litigation costs, including solar companies.

AIKO’s ABC module offshore test data

The China Solar Photovoltaic Product Quality Testing and Inspection Center (CPVT) has released the generation data for the floating test project in Yantai City, Shandong Province. 10 AIKO ABC bifacial modules and 10 TOPCon bifacial modules (as a control group) with rated power of 635 W and 580 W, respectively, were installed as part of the experiment. According to the testing results from October 1 to October 31, the AIKO’s ABC modules generated 60.81 kWh of electricity per kilowatt, compared to 56.94 kWh for the TOPCon modules. This represents a 6.80% increase in energy production per kilowatt, with the highest daily gain reaching 13.54%.

AIKO says that its Sirius series n-type ABC modules are specifically designed for offshore and water-based applications. It claims that these modules have significantly improved comprehensive power output while maintaining environmental reliability (such as resistance to salt fog and impact) compared to market-standard TOPCon products.

Flexible & lightweight perovskite cells from Dazheng Micro-Nano & Wuhan Huaming

As part of its strategic cooperation agreement with Wuhan Huaming New Energy signed last month, DaZheng Micro-nano has announced that it will jointly launch the world's first flexible and lightweight perovskite-based solar cells. It says that these cells feature advantages like high efficiency, strong power generation in low light conditions, and no restrictions on the angle of incident light. These cells are said to be suitable for smart indoor devices. Through this strategic cooperation, the 2 companies aim to promote the commercialization of flexible perovskite solar modules for various applications.
