TOPCon to dominate PV market for 3-5 years: DAS Solar CTO
Dr. Dengyuan Song, CTO of DAS Solar, states in a company release that TOPCon is set to lead the PV market for the next 3-5 years due to its cost-efficiency, scalability, and superior passivation technology. He said that TOPCon's market share, with its ability to optimize efficiency and lower LCOE compared to PERC and BC cells, is expected to exceed 80% by 2025. Song also emphasized crystalline silicon’s stability and affordability as key to its dominance, with TOPCon nearing its theoretical efficiency limit of 29.4%. Improvements in surface recombination and carrier lifetimes could further boost efficiency to 28%.
Setting sights on 40% cell efficiency, DAS Solar says it leverages its ‘One Core, Three Branches’ strategy, with TOPCon as the foundation and advancements in DBC, TSiP, and perovskite tandem cells.
DAS Solar’s bid shortlisted for Huaneng's 13.5 GW module auction
DAS Solar has been shortlisted for China Huaneng Group's 2024 solar module framework agreement procurement (second batch), specifically for the 13.5 GW n-type, bifacial dual-glass module category. According to DAS Solar, the selected n-type modules feature TOPCon 4.0 Plus cells with a mass production efficiency of 26.7% and an open-circuit voltage of 742 mV.
DAS Solar recently announced that its photovoltaic laboratory has been awarded the TÜV Rheinland CTF2 Laboratory qualification certificate (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
JA Solar Releases First TCFD Report at COP29
Vertically integrated solar PV manufacturer JA Solar unveiled its inaugural TCFD (Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosure) Report at COP29. The report, developed in collaboration with S&P Global, quantitatively analyzes climate risks and their financial impacts based on mainstream international climate scenarios.
Key climate action commitments include:
Scope 1 & 2 Emissions: Reduce by 58.8% by 2034 and by 90% by 2050 compared to 2023 levels
Scope 3 Emissions: For each MW of PV products produced, reduce emissions from purchased goods and services by 63.8% by 2034 and by 97% by 2050 compared to 2023 levels
The report details JA Solar’s actions and achievements in reducing emissions and addressing climate change during fiscal year 2023.
DMEGC Solar's 940 MW fisheries-PV project grid-connected
Solar PV manufacturer DMEGC Solar has announced that it has connected the first phase of what it claims to be China’s largest fishery-PV complementary project to the grid. The 940 MW installation integrates photovoltaic power with fish farming, optimizing land use while promoting clean energy and ecological balance. The project uses over 1.9 million Infinity series n-type modules produced in DMEGC’s carbon-neutral Lianyungang factory. Innovative 5-string flexible supports minimize environmental impact and improve space utilization. With an expected annual output of 1.609 TWh, the company says that the project will save 496,400 tons of coal and cut CO₂ emissions by 1.2374 million tons.
SolaEon’s 1 cm² perovskite cell achieves 26.14% conversion efficiency
Perovskite-focused new-generation solar cell manufacturer SolaEon Technology has announced a new record for the conversion efficiency of its 1 cm² perovskite unit cell, achieving 26.14%, as certified by the National Photovoltaic Industry Measurement and Testing Center. This surpasses the previous record of 25.64% set in April 2024, when it also announced achieving 19.2% steady-state perovskite module efficiency (see SolaEon Technology Announces World Record For Perovskite Modules).
The company states it has broken the world record for perovskite cell efficiency 8 times and leads the Solar cell efficiency tables (Version 64) by Dr. Martin Green, as well as the NREL's Best Research-Cell Efficiencies Chart. SolaEon says it is advancing the construction of its 200 MW and GW-scale production lines, with phase I facilities expected to be operational by mid-2025.
In October, SolaEon has signed an agreement to build its 1.2 GW perovskite cell manufacturing facility in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
