In less than 2 months of announcing Harsh Shah as the company's new chief executive officer (CEO), Indian independent power producer (IPP) Azure Power Global Limited has announced his departure with immediate effect.

No specific reason was given by the management for Shah's sudden departure who joined the company on July 1, 2022. "The Board has accepted Harsh's resignation with deep regret," said Board Chairman Alan Rosling. "However, we respect this unexpected decision and wish him and his family all the best for the future."

In a statement released by Azure, Shah said he was looking forward to working with the renewable energy company but cited 'unforeseen circumstances and matters beyond my control' to step down from the role of CEO.

The board has now appointed Rupesh Agarwal as the acting CEO while looking for a new permanent CEO in due course. Agarwal's appointment as Azure's new chief strategy and commercial officer was announced earlier this month (see Rupesh Agarwal Joins India's Azure Power).

The CEO's position was left vacant at Azure after Ranjit Gupta decided to leave to pursue other interests and was filled up by Shah who came to the company from IndiGrid (see Azure Power's CEO Search Ends).
