Key Takeaways
  • NGEL has launched EPC tenders covering more than 600 MW of solar capacity, including 100 MW of agri-PV capacity

  • The tenders include a 250 MW ground-mounted solar project with a 50 MW/200 MWh, 4-hour BESS in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at supplying power to defense establishments

  • Additional bids have been invited for a 6 MW floating solar PV project with a 6 MW/24 MWh BESS in Chhattisgarh

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has launched a number of solar tenders seeking EPC contractors for over 600 MW of agri-PV or agrivoltaic, ground-mounted, and floating PV projects.

NGEL, the green energy arm of India’s state-owned utility NTPC Limited, has sought bids for a cumulative 100 MW agri-PV capacity to be located in states like Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. Minimum project capacity required at a single location is 10 MW. The selected EPC firm will need to hire an external agency to conduct technical feasibility studies, site selection, and support onboarding of the Farmer Producing Organization (FPO).

The broad scope of work also includes identifying and arranging the required land and the complete transfer of the land in favor of NGEL or its subsidiary, along with infrastructure development. Comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) for a period of 3 years after commissioning is also part of the job.

The winning company will design, install and commission the project, mounting suitable modules on the module mounting structure (MMS), and also build and commission a transmission system to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)/State Transmission Utility (STU) substation.

Launched on December 16, 2025, applications for this tender will be accepted till January 12, 2026.

NGEL is also seeking EPC players to develop a 250 MW solar with 50 MW/200 MWh/4 hour battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh. The ground-mounted project will require the batteries in the BESS to be rated for a minimum 10,000 cycles of operation.

Bidder will guarantee a minimum 92% of dispatchable capacity at the point of interconnection (POI) across 15 years, starting with 100% rated dispatchable capacity for the 1st year. The BESS will support the power supply during non-solar hours.

Generated power will be consumed by the Army, the Air Force, Cantonment Boards, and Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Announced on December 31, 2025, the tender will be open for bid submissions till February 6, 2026.

On December 31, 2025, NGEL also invited EPC contractors to bid for a 6 MW floating solar PV project with a 6 MW/24 MWh BESS at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Station (ABVTPS) of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL).

The project needs to be installed on a turnkey basis. The winner will also need to provide comprehensive O&M for 5 years. The designed life of the BESS system, including that of the battery, will need to be a minimum of 15 years, considering daily single-cycle operation.

NGEL will accept bids for the floating PV tender until January 31, 2026.

NGEL’s parent NTPC exceeded the total installed and commercial power generation capacity of 85.5 GW on December 17, 2025, comprising 13.3 GW of renewable energy capacity. It aims to achieve 60 GW of renewables capacity by 2032 in its portfolio (see NTPC Targeting 60 GW Renewables Capacity By 2032).

TaiyangNews is bringing together the Indian solar PV manufacturing industry for the Solar Technology Conference India 2026 (STC.I 2026). To be held on February 5 and 6 in Aerocity, New Delhi, this 2nd edition of the TaiyangNews physical conference will also have banks, investors, and policymakers in attendance.
