  • Sonnedix has officially announced completion of its Sonnedix Meseta de los Andes solar plant in Chile
  • The 160 MW facility is the largest operational PV project in Central Chile, according to the company
  • In its 1st year of operation, the project is expected to generate close to 386,750 MWh

A 160 MW solar power plant in Chile’s Valparaíso region has become the ‘largest’ operational PV facility in Central Chile, according to renewable energy producer Sonnedix that says this is also its 2nd largest PV project globally.

The Sonnedix Meseta de los Andes Solar Project is located in the Municipalities of Calle Larga and Los Andes. It is estimated to generate close to 386,750 MWh of clean energy annually in the 1st year of its operation, enough to suffice electricity needs of more than 180,000 local homes, the company stated.

Sonnedix completed the project in around 2 years since construction began, creating 300 local jobs.

“Last year we initiated our journey to hybridisation in Chile with the acquisition of the Arco Energy platform, including wind projects into our portfolio, and currently we have almost 1.6GW of total renewable development pipeline in the country,” said Sonnedix CEO Axel Thiemann.

With this project, the company counts its current renewable energy capacity in Chile as over 2.3 GW of which 700 MW is operational. Globally, it has more than 9 GW of solar, wind and storage projects.
