- Technology specific auction for solar energy dated September 1, 2020 was oversubscribed but finally awarded 75 bids representing 258 MW capacity

Germany’s Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur has announced the results of the 5th round of technology specific auctions in 2020 for solar PV and wind energy.
The latest technology specific auction round for solar energy dated September 1, 2020 attracted 163 bids with an amount of 675 MW as against 257 MW to be won.
The agency finally accepted 75 bids representing 258 MW capacity. Winning bids ranged between €0.0480 to €0.0539 ($0.056 to $0.063) per kWh with weighted average bid of €0.0522 ($0.061) per kWh. “The award values represent the maximum amount of funding to be received, the average market price to be achieved is deducted from the amount to be paid out,” the agency added.
The technology specific wind auction was, in comparison, undersubscribed – 25 bids totaling 310 MW were submitted as opposed to 367 MW offered. Out of the 310 MW submitted, 3 bids totaling 26 MW capacity had to be excluded. The winning bids ranged between €0.0617 and €0.062 ($0.072 to $0.073) per kWh.
In the previous technology specific auction for solar in July 2020, the agency selected 30 bids for 193.272 MW for solar power with an average winning bid of €0.0518 per kWh and lowest and highest winning bids ranged between €0.0469 per kWh and highest €0.0536 per kWh (see Germany Awards 193 MW PV In Tech Specific Tender).
Bundesnetzagentur will hold next technology specific auction for solar and wind energy on October 1, 2020 and December 1, 2020. Next round of innovation tender will be held in 2021 but actual date will be announced later.
