Change Of Chief Executive Officer At Clearway Energy

Clearway Energy Group, one of the largest renewable energy companies in the US, has announced Craig Cornelius’ appointment as the chief executive officer (CEO) of its public affiliate Clearway Energy Inc. He takes over from Christopher S. Sotos, who voluntarily resigned from the company to pursue other opportunities.

Cornelius joined NRG Group in 2013 where he worked as the president of its renewable energy division. Its clean energy business was then spun out into Clearway in 2018. He has been working as the CEO of Clearway’s sponsor Clearway Energy Group LLC (CEG).

From April 30, 2024, Cornelius will assume the CEO role at both CEG as well as Clearway Energy Inc. He has been selected as a member of the board.

Before NRG, Cornelius held various senior leadership positions at the Hudson Clean Energy Partners. A part of his professional life was also spent in the government where he was the program manager for the US Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Program. Here he led the creation of the $1.5 billion Solar America Initiative. Cornelius also served terms at the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

CEG, along with Clearway Energy Inc, owns and operates 10.4 GW of renewable and conventional energy assets across the country. This comprises 8 GW of operational wind, solar and energy storage assets in its portfolio.
