Waaree Bags 5 GW Bifacial Module Orders & More From NHPC, Greenko, TotalEnergies

Waaree has secured module supply orders for 5 GW capacity; NHPC selected EPC contractors for 1 GW solar; Greenko constructing 5.23 GW integrated RE storage project in Andhra Pradesh; TotalEnergies to build 1 MW solar plant for YEMI.

$2.37 billion worth of new orders for Waaree Energies: Waaree Energies has announced locking in module supply contracts worth 5 GW for $2.37 billion, both from Indian as well as international companies. It will be supplying its high efficiency bifacial solar panels of 540W and 600W which are based on M10 and M12 wafer cell sizes . It has not disclosed the timeline or the identity of the customers. Chairman and Managing Director Hitesh Doshi said these orders help the company strengthen its market position, diversify the clientele and expand in newer markets. Waaree currently has 4 GW solar module manufacturing capacity, and plans to add another 5 GW by December 2022 along with 4 GW cell capacity by March 2023 (.

NHPC awards EPC contracts for 1 GW solar: NHPC Limited has awarded EPC contracts for 1 GW grid connected solar PV capacity and transmission line for power evacuation to interstate transmission system (ISTS) sub station. Adani Infra (India) Limited has won 600 MW capacity to be established in Gujarat. Tata Power Solar Systems has secured 300 MW in Rajasthan and SSEL-ASR JV for 100 MW capacity in Andhra Pradesh. Works involve comprehensive O&M for 5 years under tranche-III of CPSU Scheme Phase-II.

Greenko’s 5.23 GW RE storage project under construction: Greenko has broken ground on location in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district for its 5.23 GW integrated renewable energy storage project calling it the world’s ‘largest’ such facility. To be built for over $3 billion, the facility comprises pumped storage with 10,800 MWh of daily storage, 3 GW solar and 550 MW wind energy. The storage part can integrate 6 GW of wind and solar capacity. The project is scheduled for completion by Q4/2023.

1 MW solar plant for engine manufacturer: TotalEnergies will build a 1 MW solar PV plant to power industrial engine production facility of Yanmar Engine Manufacturing India (YEMI) in Tamil Nadu. The system will power about 30% of the facility’s energy with green power, said TotalEnergies. The project for the Indian presence of Japanese manufacturer will generate around 1,500 MWh of renewable electricity annually with the help of more than 2,200 modules. Under the agreement between the duo, YEMI will source electricity for 20 years while TotalEnergies will install and operate the system.
