JinkoSolar’s n-type TOPCon modules perform better than BC modules in offshore settings

Leading solar PV and ESS manufacturer JinkoSolar has announced that its n-type TOPCon bifacial modules outperformed p-type BC bifacial modules in a recent offshore PV test in Putian, Fujian. The modules showed up to 2.56% higher power generation under cloudy conditions. The test, conducted in a challenging marine environment, involved 26 modules from each technology installed near the coastline under identical conditions.

Jinko’s Tiger Neo TOPCon modules (JKM575-72HL4-BDV) were found to have generated 1.52% more energy on average and to have excelled in high humidity, salt fog, and low-light scenarios. The company says these bifacial modules, with a rated power output of 575 W and measuring 2278 x 1134 x 30 mm, feature advanced design and encapsulation processes tailored for harsh marine conditions, offering high reliability and efficiency.

Recently, JinkoSolar announced that its n-type Tiger Neo TOPCon modules enabled the grid-connection of the world’s first gigawatt-scale offshore solar project (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Trina Storage secures Top 10 spot for energy storage delivery capability

In a media release, Trina Storage, the energy storage arm of Trinasolar, has announced that it has been ranked among the top 10 energy storage integrators in China, the UK, and Australia in S&P Global Commodity Insights’ 2024 Energy Storage System Integrator Report. The company says it is a recognition of its innovation and global project execution, with rankings based on installed and contracted energy storage projects.

Known for its advanced Elementa 2 system featuring proprietary battery technology, liquid cooling, and corrosion-resistant design, Trina Storage says it supports renewable integration, grid stability, and peak shaving. The company claims to have shipped over 7.5 GWh of its ESS globally by Q3 2024, with 1 GWh delivered to the UK, multiple US projects, and significant deployments in Europe.

Recently, Trina’s Elementa 2 liquid-cooled ESS has obtained the NFPA69 explosion-proof ventilation system certification from TÜV Rheinland (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

TÜV Rheinland certification for Tongwei’s PV supply chain traceability management system

At the 7th China International PV and Energy Storage Industry Conference (CIPESIC 2024), Tongwei was awarded the Certificate of PV Supply Chain Traceability Management System by TÜV Rheinland. This traceability management standard is based on the globally recognized ISO 9001 quality management system. It enables developers, buyers, and investors to trace supply chain documentation of purchased PV modules, enhancing quality assurance and transparency in the photovoltaic industry. Tongwei emphasized that this certification highlights its achievements in sustainable supply chain management. It said further that it remains committed to developing a low-carbon, safe, and sustainable supply chain, supporting global energy transitions.

CIPESIC 2024 sees RMB 30 billion in projects signings

Chinese media has reported that over 60 cooperative projects were signed at the CIPESIC 2024 event held in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. These involved government entities like Chengdu, Leshan, Meishan, Yibin, and enterprises like Guangyuan, CGN New Energy, Tongwei Co. and GCL. The total investment of these contracts has been estimated to exceed RMB 30 billion ($4.14 billion), covering high-efficiency solar cells and modules, distributed PV projects, smart energy, energy storage, and equipment manufacturing within the PV and energy storage value chain.

Zhongli Group launches restructuring plan

Talesun Solar’s parent company Zhongli Group has unveiled a restructuring draft and operational plan. The group intends to address its debt crisis and advance business upgrades by introducing Changshu Guangsheng New Energy Co., Ltd. as an industrial investor. Guangsheng New Energy's controlling shareholder, Xiamen C&D Corporation, will provide industrial synergy support.

The restructuring plan involves resolving subsidiary debts, including those of Talesun Solar, through cash and equity repayments. Zhongli Group plans to increase its total share capital to 3 billion shares through a 10-for-24.5 stock issuance, allocating some shares to debt settlement and attracting new investors. Post-restructuring, the company will focus on specialty cables and photovoltaic main businesses, resume power station development, and explore energy storage opportunities.

Last week, Zhongli Group suspended the trading of its stock (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

China’s October large-scale industrial solar power generation up 12.6%

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in October 2024, large-scale industrial enterprises (those with over RMB 20 million ($2.76 million) in annual revenues) generated 731 TWh of electricity, up 2.1% year-on-year. This translated into an average daily generation of 23.58 TWh. Split into energy types:

  • Thermal power rose 1.8%, a slowdown of 7.1 percentage points from September

  • Hydropower decreased by 14.9%, with the decline expanding by 0.3 percentage points from September

  • Nuclear power grew by 2.2%, with the growth rate slowing by 0.6 percentage points

  • Wind power surged by 34%, accelerating by 2.4 percentage points from September

  • Solar power increased by 12.6%, slightly slowing by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month
