  • STEG has launched a consultation process, soliciting opinion from general populace for a proposed 200 MW solar project
  • The solar facility is planned to come up in Tataouine governorate on 460-hectare land
  • Concerned stakeholders have time till August 5, 2022 to submit their responses with the agency

Tunisian electricity distributor Société tunisienne de l’électricité et du gaz (STEG) has sought stakeholder consultation for a solar PV plant of 200 MW capacity that it plans to build in the Governorate of Tataouine.

Specifically, the project is planned to come up on 460-hectare land about 5.5 km southwest of the village of Borj Bourguiba.

STEG following site visits and consultations with local authorities and denizens in September 2021, a framework for resettlement and restoration of the region has been formulated.

Citizens who are opposed to the project and wish to notify their concerns have time till August 5, 2022 to do so, by sending their comments to STEG, as per the notification issued.

STEG does not reveal any more details about the 200 MW proposed project. Notably, Norway’s Scatec was the largest winner of Tunisia’s 500 MW solar PV auction, securing rights to develop 60 MW capacity each in Tozeur and Sidi Bouzid, and 240 MW in Tataouine (see $0.0244/kWh Lowest Bid For Tunisia’s 500 MW Tender).
