• SECI, on behalf of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), has issued a request for selection documents for 2.5 MW grid connected rooftop solar PV capacity
  • Bidding to take place under CapEx model where rooftop owners will become the eventual owners of the system
  • SDMC had recently signed on a MoU with SECI to generate 10 MW on rooftops and 20 MW on spare vacant land

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has floated a tender for a 2.5 MW grid connected rooftop solar PV system scheme in the capital of India. The request for selection (RfS) documents have been issued on behalf of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the tenders fall under CapEx model. Under the CapEx model, the rooftop owners will be the ultimate owners of the solar system and are responsible for operations and maintenance (O&M) of the system. However, developers will be required to offer O&M services for a period of five years from the date of commissioning. Developers will be offered a 30% subsidy on the system cost.

The job description includes design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning including warranty, operation and maintenance of the rooftop system. The developers will be required to identify rooftops. Project is expected to be completed within six months.

The SDMC has plans to generate 20 MW of solar power through rooftop solar. In this regard, it has signed on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SECI for two years’ time, it will generate 10 MW on the rooftops of 440 buildings and 20 MW on spare vacant land.

India’s government is keen to quickly develop the country’s rooftop solar segment. It has increased the budget for rooftop solar PV to 50 billion INR ($750 million) for 4,200 MW solar power capacity on rooftops.

The last date for the submission of bids for the SDMC tender is August 8, 2016. Details about the tender can be found here.
