• Scotland has launched a program to encourage decarbonization of buildings by property owners
  • Decarbonization measures must include any of the approved technologies, including solar & storage; it will also cover internal works and insulation within projects using such measures
  • It has issued an expression of interest to be submitted by property owners to avail of the funding
  • Last date to submit expression of interest is June 8, 2018; deadline for applications to fund is July 20, 2018

The Scottish government is inviting expressions of interest (EoI) from landlords to implement energy efficiency and heat decarbonization measures in their existing properties. It is offering capital funding of £ 3.5 million ($4.75 million) for these measures.

In May 2018, the government launched the Route Map for Energy Efficient Scotland, aimed at owners of commercial, public and industrial sector buildings. Now, the government has launched, what it calls the transition phase under Decarbonisation Fund for Social Housing. The EOI has been issued under this program.

The incentives will be for energy efficiency measures such as internal works and insulation within projects that include decarbonization activity. It has listed a number of technologies, including PV and storage, to be eligible for funding. The government will also consider proposals for any innovative activity or technologies favorably, provided there is effective monitoring and evaluation, along with the innovative practice providing tangible benefits for energy efficiency.

Last date to submit EoI is June 8, 2018. Deadline for applications to the fund is July 20, 2018. More details are available on the website of the Scottish government.

In December 2017, the Scottish government published its Energy Strategy. It targets 50% renewables share in the energy mix by 2030 with 17 GW, but there was no specific mention of solar (see Scotland Energy Strategy Published). At the end of June 2017, Scotland’s renewables share was 9.3 GW.
