Swiss electricity generator Alpiq along with Grande Dixence SA and the municipality of Hérémence have announced a new bifacial Alpine solar power plant in Switzerland, at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level, with potential to produce 40 GWh.

Under new ordinances amended by the Federal Council of Switzerland to strengthen the country’s energy supply, it will launch auctions to award solar power projects with 150 kW capacity and above, and also offer a ‘height bonus’ for alpine solar.

Switzerland’s Axpo has energized 2.2 MW AlpinSolar Project as the country’s ‘largest’ alpine solar power plant that’s contracted to supply clean energy to local supermarket chain Denner under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for use in its stores.
