  • Blueleaf Energy and SunAsia will co-develop 1.25 GW solar PV capacity in Philippines
  • All projects will be located on the island of Luzon with Blueleaf Energy backing the projects with its financial prowess
  • SunAsia as the local partner will bring its development experience to the partnership

A new solar power project development partnership has been announced for the Philippines by Blueleaf Energy, with a local developer SunAsia to co-develop 1.25 GW capacity in the country. This is the 2nd Asian solar development partnership announced by Blueleaf Energy that’s the portfolio company of Green Investment Group (GIG), backed by Australia’s Macquarie within the month of June 2021.

Blueleaf Energy recently announced a solar development partnership for Japan with Univergy International, calling it Hinode Energy (see Macquarie’s New Solar Development Platform In Japan).

All of the 1.25 GW capacity will be sited on the largest island of Philippines, Luzon, and will contribute to the country’s goal of installing an additional 10 GW of new solar capacity by 2030, said Blueleaf Energy that has already developed 250 MW PV capacity in the Southeast Asian nation when it was known as Conergy (see Conergy adds over 200 MW in Philippines).

To this partnership, while Blueleaf Energy brings its financial and in-house technical capabilities, SunAsia contributes its local development experience. Blueleaf Energy’s Interim CEO Sol Proops said, “This marks another milestone as we partner with reliable, strategic local developers to expand the solar industry across Asia.”

In February 2021, another local company Solar Philippines proposed to build 2 GW solar PV project with 6,000 MWh battery energy storage capacity, as a hybrid project with 600 MW diesel back up in Batangas, Luzon(see 2 GW Solar & Storage Facility Proposed In Philippines).

A 50 MW solar PV project called PowerSource First Bulacan Solar Inc. or BulacanSol was commissioned by local electric power distributor Manila Electric Company (Meralco), also on the island of Luzon in May 2021.
