  • Repsol says it is moving ahead with 1.768 GW of renewable energy capacity in Italy
  • It will be deployed as 943 MW wind and 825 MW solar PV projects, starting with 2 PV facilities in Puglia
  • More than 60% of this renewable capacity is at an advanced stage of development

Spain based oil and gas company Repsol has identified Italy as a geographical location to expand its renewable energy footprint and says it will develop 1.768 GW of renewable energy projects in the country, divided as 943 MW wind and 825 MW solar PV capacity.

More than 60% of this portfolio is at an advanced stage of development, and Repsol has plans to increase the pipeline further. Most of this capacity is thanks to the company’s acquisition of Asterion Energies with its 7.7 GW wind and solar portfolio in December 2022. The latter is spread out in Spain, Italy and France (see Repsol Acquires Renewables Investor Asterion Energies).

Asterion’s portfolio in Italy is located in the regions of Puglia, Lazio, Sardinia, Umbria, Sicily, Basilicata, Molise, and Tuscany. Construction on the initial 2 solar power plants with 11 MW capacity in Puglia is to launch its renewable energy offensive in the country.

Apart from Italy, Repsol has its renewable energy footprint in Spain where it operates 1.6 GW and is constructing another 1.076 GW capacity. In the US it is building 719 MW including 637 MW Frye Solar Project in Texas, and in Chile 37 MW.

By 2025, Repsol aims to achieve 6 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, and raise it to 20 GW by 2030. Currently, it has achieved over 2 GW of installed renewable energy projects (see 20 GW Renewable Energy Capacity By 2030).
