TPREL energizes 100 MW AC and ACME Solar 300 MW for MSEDCL; ReNew Power signs MoUs to invest in RE in Maharashtra and Karnataka; JSW Energy’s 225 MW solar plant uses JA Solar modules; Solar imports increased 374% in Q1/2022.
TPREL commissions 100 MW AC solar: Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned 138 MW DC/100 MW AC solar power capacity for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in Partur, Maharashtra. Built using 4,11,900 monocrystalline PV modules, the facility was executed by Tata Power’s EPC arm Tata Power Solar Systems Limited on 600 acres of land. This project takes Tata Power’s operational renewable energy capacity to 3.62 GW comprising 2.68 GW solar and 932 MW wind. It has another 1.3 GW renewable capacity under various stages of implementation.
ACME Solar commissions 300 MW solar: ACME Solar has also commissioned 300 MW solar power project for MSEDCL. This one is located in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district in Badiseed village. The company currently holds an operational and under development portfolio of 8.5 GW.
ReNew Power to invest in Maharashtra & Karnataka: Indian renewable energy company backed by Goldman Sachs, ReNew Power Ventures has signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the state governments of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The plan is to invest INR 50,000 crore between 2022 and 2028 in Maharashtra and another INR 50,000 crore in Karnataka building wind, solar, hybrid power, battery storage and green hydrogen projects in these states.
JA Solar modules for 225 MW solar plant: JSW Energy commissioned a 225 MW solar power plant in Karnataka for which it has used JA Solar’s DeepBlue 3.0 modules. It is part of a wind-solar hybrid project for which JSW Energy has a power purchase agreement (PPA) with JSW Steel, both companies are part of JSW Group. JSW Energy aims to grow its current portfolio from 7 GW to 20 GW generation capacity with renewables accounting for 85% stake, up from 55% now.
Solar cells & module imports improve 374% YoY in Q1/2022: Mercom India Research, referring to Department of Commerce data, says India imported 374% more solar cells and modules in Q1/2022 on annual basis, worth $1.23 billion. It was thanks to developers sourcing around 10 GW worth of modules ahead of the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) deadline of April 1, 2022 in a bid to save on module costs. Exports on the other hand, went down by 74% to $7 million on annual basis. China continued to maintain its leading position as the largest exporter of modules and cells to India, accounting for 96% share which went up compared to 89.50% from Q4/2021.
