  • Belectric has bagged the contract to provide its EPC services for a 16.8 MW floating solar power plant in Israel
  • It is planned to be built on a water reservoir near Kibbutz Ma’ayan Tzvi with completion planned for 2022-end
  • The German company is building it for South Korean solar panel maker S’energy and local water utility Carmel Shore Waters

Germany based solar EPC contractor Belectric is expanding its floating solar power portfolio with the addition of a 16.8 MW project in Israel, company’s 4th in the country, for South Korean solar panel maker S’energy and local water utility Carmel Shore Waters.

The facility will be completed by Belectric’s Israeli subsidiary with construction planned to begin in Q1/2022 and commissioning scheduled for the end of this year. The EPC company, that recently had its ownership changed from RWE Renewables to Elevion, will also be responsible for the facility’s operation and maintenance (O&M) post commissioning (see Belectric Ownership Changes To Elevion Group).

It will be located on a water reservoir near Kibbutz Ma’ayan Tzvi with more than 30,000 solar modules mounted on a floating platform and connected to the mainland with floating marine grade power lines.

“Floating PV installations open up new opportunities for solar, especially in countries with high population density and competing uses for available land”, explains Ingo Alphéus, CEO of Belectric GmbH. Of more than 4 GW of ground mounted and floating solar PV systems installed globally, Belectric counts 35 projects with 570 MW as located in Israel. Here it is already building a 19.3 MW floating solar plant on several water reservoirs for fish farming pools, for EDF (see 19.3 MW Floating Solar PV Project Planned In Israel).

According to a recent report of Global Industry Analysts (GIA), at the end of global floating solar installed capacity was a cumulative of 1.6 GW, and is expected to grow to 4.8 GW by 2026 (see 1.6 GW Floating Solar Capacity Till 2021).
