Construction has started on the 1.5 GW Ulanqab Jingda integrated wind, solar, thermal power and energy storage base in Fengzhen, Inner Mongolia. Beijing Jingneng Power and GD Power are jointly investing RMB 7.148 billion in the project.
The planned generation capacity includes 1.2 GW of wind power and 300 MW of solar PV, along with a 225 MW/900 MWh electrochemical energy storage system (ESS) for peak shaving and frequency regulation. Existing thermal power capacity will provide backup support.
Once completed, the project is expected to supply approximately 2.936 TWh of green electricity annually to the northern Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei grid through the 500 kV Jinglong-Datong-Fangshan transmission corridor.
Power projects involving wind, solar, and storage continue to gain ground in Inner Mongolia. Recently, a China Huaneng subsidiary fully grid-connected a 960 MW wind-solar-storage project in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Battery manufacturer Gotion has started trial production at the main plant of Phase I of its new lithium-ion energy storage battery project in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. Its subsidiary, Jiangsu Gotion New Energy Technology, is developing the project with a planned investment of up to RMB 4 billion.
Planned in two phases, it will have a total annual capacity of 20 GWh. Phase I is designed to produce 5 GWh each of 52 Ah and 104 Ah energy storage cells, while Phase II will add 10 GWh of capacity for 314 Ah cells.
Gotion currently has 28 GWh of power and energy storage battery production capacity in Nanjing. Once the new facility reaches full capacity, the company’s total battery production capacity in the city is expected to rise to 48 GWh.
Financial leasing company China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. (CDB Leasing) has signed an asset purchase agreement with Skyworth PV to acquire residential PV power stations and ancillary equipment for RMB 1.498 billion. These assets are spread across 12 provincial-level regions in China, including Beijing, Tianjin, and Chongqing.
Upon completion, CDB Leasing will act as the lessor and lease the assets to third-party lessees under operating lease arrangements.
Separately, since the beginning of 2026, CDB Leasing has entered into several PV asset leasing transactions with counterparties including TrinaPower and Chint Anneng. Industry reports put the combined value of these earlier transactions at more than RMB 7.7 billion.
Solar cell manufacturer AIKO plans to upgrade existing PERC capacity at its Tianjin base and part of its TOPCon capacity in Chuzhou to all back-contact (ABC) cell production.
The Tianjin project involves an estimated investment of RMB 1.15 billion to convert 6 GW of existing PERC capacity to ABC production. Construction is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026, with production expected to start in stages in Q3 2027.
For the Chuzhou base, AIKO plans to purchase 22 units of wet-process equipment, including coating systems, cleaning machines, and etching machines, from related party Suzhou Puyite Automation Systems Co., Ltd. The proposed purchase is worth RMB 50.87 million, including VAT. The company says it is a repeat order for equipment with the same models and specifications as those ordered in August 2026, and it will support converting part of the base’s TOPCon capacity to ABC technology. AIKO has not disclosed the capacity involved or the commissioning schedule for the Chuzhou upgrade.
On the financial side, AIKO recently announced a return to profitability, reporting a net profit in Q3 2026 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Qinghai province has launched its 2027 mechanism price auction for incremental renewable energy projects, with separate bidding processes for wind and solar power. Eligible projects must reach full-capacity operation between June 1, 2025, and December 31, 2027, and must not have previously been included in the mechanism pricing scheme.
The mechanism covers a total electricity volume of 28.59 TWh, comprising 14.08 TWh of solar PV and 14.51 TWh of wind power. The bidding price range is RMB 0.15-0.2277/kWh for solar and RMB 0.18-0.24/kWh for wind. The mechanism price will apply for 12 years.
