South Africa headquartered petrochemicals company Sasol is seeking renewable energy supply from 600 MW capacity for its South African operations through a request for information (RFI). It aims to identify partners for the potential deployment of renewable energy projects, specifically comprising wind and solar PV technologies.
Sasol wants minimum generation capacity of a project to be 20 MW to be implemented either as wheeled option from suitable locations across the country or as embedded option close to the company’s facilities in Sasolburg or Secunda.
Sasol sees renewable energy as a key enabler to reduce its GHG emissions in line with its target to reduce absolute GHG emissions from the South African operations by a minimum of 10% by 2030 compared to the 2017 baseline, to be able to make products in a sustainable manner.
Successful bidders will be required to enter into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Sasol as independent power producers (IPP).
