Latest Topcon And HJT Modules From Tongwei

TNC And THC Modules Are Based On Most Promising Next Generation Solar Technologies Offered By Tongwei

Latest Topcon And HJT Modules From Tongwei

Dual Focus: Tongwei has been working on both TOPCon and HJT technologies as advanced cell architectures beyond PERC, and launched new modules based on both technologies. (Source: Tongwei)

  • TNC module from Tongwei is based on TOPcon technology has a power output of 625 W and an efficiency of 23.2%
  • While THC is heterojunction module with 730 w power having an efficiency of 23.5%
  • Tongwei is planning to reach 80 GW of module production capacity by the end of 2023.

Tongwei, The World’s Largest Cell Maker, Also Has Ambitious Plans To Become A Leading Module Player. While P-Type PERC Is Still The Company’s Main Product, Tongwei Also Has A Long History Of Working On N-Type Technologies. In Fact, It Was The First To Set Up A 1 GW Production Line With HJT Technology In China While Simultaneously Working With Topcon. The Company Mainly Promotes 2 Module Products, One Based On HJT And The Other On Topcon. Tongwei’s Technical Overseas Director Jack Xu Presented The Details Of These 2 Products At The Taiyangnews Conference on Global PV System Technology Trends H1/2023

The Topcon Technology Product Stream Is Called TNC, With The Main Product Being A 72-Cell 625 W Module With 23.2% Efficiency. Measuring 2,382 X 1,134 Mm, The Product Also Aligns With The Agreed Standard For Mid-Sized Module Dimensions. In Addition To The Typical Benefits Associated With Topcon Technology Such As High Efficiency, High Reliability, High Bifaciality, And Low Temperature Coefficient, The Module Also Meets The Weight Restriction. Despite Supporting A High Power Of 625 W, It Weighs 33.2 Kg, Less Than The 35 Kg Cap. Like Products Of This Size, This TNC Module From Tongwei Also Supports High Container Space Utilization And High Rated Power Over Typical PERC Products, Resulting In Higher Energy Generation, Thereby Reducing BOS Costs And LCOE. Tongwei Estimates That The Power Generation With Its TNC Technology Is 4.14% More, Which Reduces The LCOE By 4.34% Compared To PERC, Which Is Consistent With Realtime Field-Testing Data That Showed An Increase In Power Generation By 4.04%.

Elaborating On The Key Benefits Of The Module, Xu First Highlights The High Power Output. Referring To M10-Based Bifacial Modules, The TNC Module’s Power Is Typically 25 W Higher, While The New TNC Product’s Power Is Even 55 W Higher Than Its PERC Peers. In Addition, The Module Also Has A Low Temperature Coefficient Of 0.3%/°C. In Terms Of Bifaciality, The TNC Series Has 10-15% Higher Bifaciality Than PERC With The Absolute Value At 80%. Tongwei Has Opted For PECVD-Based Topcon Technology, And Has Already Reached A Mass Production Efficiency Of 25.5%. The Company Has A Strong Roadmap For Capacity Expansion With The Technology, From The Current Level Of 9 GW To 25 GW By The End Of This Year, And To About 50 GW Next Year.

In Addition To The Topcon Module, Tongwei Has Also Launched A HJT Module Series Called THC. The Module Has A Power Of Up To 730 W And An Efficiency Of Up To 23.5%. Built With 66 G12 Cells And Measuring 2,384 X 1,303 Mm, It Is Larger Than The Company’s Topcon Module. This Larger Form Factor, Combined With The High Power Of 730 W, Helps Reduce BOS Costs And LCOE. According To Xu, Tongwei Has Broken Its Own Record For High Module Power 3 Times This Year, With Power Ratings Of 720.7 W, 728.4 W, And 732.6 W, All Certified By TÜV SUD. The First Record Was Set In January, And The Latter 2 Were Announced In May.

Tongwei’s HJT Technology Features A Nanocrystalline Silicon Window Layer With Superior Transparency And Carrier Selectivity. Going Into Details, Applying Doped Nanocrystalline Silicon On Both Sides, Replacing Amorphous Silicon, Boosts Efficiency By 1%. The Next Is Copper Metallization, Which Not Only Reduces Silver-Related Costs, But Also Increases Efficiency By 0.2%. SMBB Interconnection Is The Third Feature. With These Innovations, The THC Champion Cell Reached An Efficiency Of 26.18%.

As For The Important Benefits, Compared To The Typical G12 66-Cell PERC Products, The THC Module Has A Higher Power Of About 60 W, A Lower Temperature Coefficient Of 0.26%/°C, And 15 To 20% Higher Bifaciality, All Of Which Are Better Than The Company’s Topcon Product. These Modules Have 4.6% Higher Power Generation, Translating Into 4.53% Lower LCOE Compared To PERC. In Addition To These 2 Modules, Tongwei Also Supplies A Wide Range Of Module Products, Including A 435 W Product For Residential Solar, 590 W And 585 W Modules For C&I, And A 635 W Module For Utility.

Giving An Overview Of The Company’s Current Production Capacity, Xu Says That Tongwei Is Leading In Polysilicon With 380,000 Tons, And In Cells With 100 GW. With Modules, The Company Is Planning To Reach 80 GW This Year, While Maintaining A Relatively Small Wafer Production Capacity Of 15 GW.
