Prequalified Bidders For Niger’s 50 MW Project

The Scaling Solar tender for 50 MW AC solar PV capacity in Niger has announced prequalifying companies and consortia as Norway’s Scatec, France’s GreenYellow, Voltalia also from France, Morocco’s Nareva Holding, Egypt’s Elsewedy Electric and Infinity Power Holding, also from Egypt.

Infinity Power Holding is a joint venture between Masdar and Infinity Energy of Egypt and was incorporated in the Netherlands.

Niger’s Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy launched the country’s maiden Scaling Solar tender in September 2021 with 50 MW AC capacity to be settled in Gorou Banda plateau (see 50 MW AC Scaling Solar Tender For Niger).

In response, the authorities received 14 applications, out of which the above mentioned 6 firms and consortia were selected. The winner when announced will be expected to design, finance, construct and operate the grid connected solar plant on the outskirts of the capital city of Niamey.

Conceived by the World Bank to help developing nations become ensure energy self-sufficiency, Scaling Solar is executed by the group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) that acts as an advisor to various countries under the program.

In November 2021, Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Mines, Oil and Energy and Côte d’Ivoire Energies announced 9 firms and consortia as having pre-qualified for the 60 MW Scaling Solar tender including all of the same names that have prequalified for the Niger tender (see 60 MW Côte d’Ivoire Scaling Solar Update).
