- EPM has launched a tender for a large scale solar power plant with 83 MW planned capacity
- Selected EPC contractor needs to execute the project in the La Dorada municipality of Caldas department

Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), the electricity utility in Colombia, has launched a search for a solar EPC service provider to construct the 83 MW Tepuy Photovoltaic Solar Park in the municipality of La Dorada in the Department of Caldas.
The tender is open to experienced national and international companies with broad scope of work spanning design, construction, assembly and commissioning of the Tepuy project on some 220 hectares of land. It will be equipped with more than 200,000 bifacial solar PV panels, each with a power output of 540W to 55W.
On completion, the project will be grid connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) at the Purnio substation of Cadas CHEC Hydroelectric Power Plant.
According to the utility, the 83 MW project is part of its strategy to contribute to the country’s energy transition through the development of solar and wind power facilities. It will also exploit the solar irradiation potential of the Middle Magdalena region.
Tender documents are available since April 7, 2022 and bid submission date is specified as May 2, 2022. Details are available on EPM’s contracting website with the process code CRW155264.
IHS Markit says Colombia currently relies on hydropower, followed by natural gas and coal. Among renewables, there is major scope to explore solar and wind energy projects. The country aums to increase renewable energy share to 12% by the end of 2022. Under its hydrogen roadmap, Colombia is targeting 1 GW electrolysis capacity by 2030 which also bodes well for renewables here.
