  • Toyota Tsusho has established AEOLUS SAS, a new renewable energy entity for Africa
  • It is owned in a 50:50 shareholding by Toyota Tsusho’s wholly-owned subsidiaries CFAO and Eurus Energy
  • AEOLUS will work as a renewable energy IPP with interest in clean energy sources such as wind and solar energy

Banking on the renewable energy experience of its subsidiaries, Toyota Group’s trading arm Toyota Tsusho Corporation has established AEOLUS SAS as a renewable energy independent power producer (IPP) in Africa. The company was incorporated in March 2024 in France.

AEOLUS is under a 50:50 ownership of Toyota Tsusho’s wholly-owned subsidiaries CFAO SAS and Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation.

While CFAO is active in the mobility, healthcare, consumer and infrastructure domains in Africa, wind and solar projects operator Eurus Energy has presence in 15 countries and regions (see Toyota Now Majority Stakeholder In Renewables IPP SB Energy).

Together with CFAO and Eurus Energy, the parent company has been collaborating for renewable energy in Africa. They will now consolidate their renewable energy projects in the continent into AEOLUS in stages.

The latter will then take over the projects as a renewable energy IPP. It will develop and expand into renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.

With AEOLUS, Toyota Tsusho says it aims to promote the business more flexibly and efficiently by integrating the expertise of both its subsidiaries and consolidate the renewable energy business in Africa.

“We look forward to the establishment of Aeolus more organically linking our strengths, thus creating synergies that are unique to the Toyota Tsusho Group,” said Toyota Tsusho President and CEO Ichiro Kashitani.

In August 2023, Toyota Tsusho announced a 25 MW utility-scale solar power plant in Africa’s Benin with RMT (see Japanese Company’s Solar Investment In Benin).
