- Joules Power Limited has secured a contract with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority for a 100 MW solar power plant
- It will be constructed on 500-acre land in Chandpur Economic Zone for an investment of $180 million
- Joules Power will be required to build a multipurpose jetty and a 37 km 132 kV transmission line
A 100 MW solar power plant is set to come up in Bangladesh’s Chandpur Economic Zone as per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between local independent power producer (IPP) Joules Power Limited (JPL) and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA).
Local media reported the project will be set up for an investment of $180 million on 500-acre land in the Chandpur Economic Zone. Part of the deal for JPL is to also build a multipurpose jetty and a 37 km 132 kV transmission line.
Bangladesh’s online newspaper bdnews24.com said the 100 MW plant in Chandpur will be the first IPP renewables project in the country once implemented.
JPL is the owner of Technaf Solartech Energy Ltd (TSEL) that commissioned the country’s first utility scale solar power plant with 28 MW capacity in Teknaf, Chittagong in September 2018. That project had UK’s Proinso providing engineering procurement management services.
The news follows an MoU signed between BEZA and Norway’s Scatec Solar for the 800 MW solar power plant at Chandpur to be established for $1 billion (see 800 MW PV Plant For Bangladesh).
