Ence–Energía y Celulosa, the eucalyptus pulp producer and renewable energy generator from Spain, has announced the appointment of Marc Gómez as the new CEO of its renewable energy arm, Ence Energía.

Gómez has taken over from Felipe Torroba who has held positions of general director of Energy and CEO of Ence Energía since 2018. “Felipe Torroba will remain in the company, and will continue to carry out his excellent work from the Finance Department, taking care of the M&A area,” stated the management.

Before joining Ence Energía, Gómez was the president and CEO of ABB Spain since 2018. At ABB Spain, Gómez spent 26 years.

Ence Energía is a renewable energy producer with focus on biomass and solar PV technology and is exploring new avenues as energy storage which it sees as essential to support the grid.

“We have a lot to contribute to the manageability of the system, generating renewable energy and helping to promote the presence of these sources of electricity production. An exciting and challenging task, strongly linked to notions such as rural development and sustainability,” said Gómez.

According to the company’s website, Ence has a renewable energy generation capacity of 266 MW in the form of independent power plants with an additional 112 MW in cogeneration and generation plants of its pulp biofactories.

Ence Energía is developing solar PV assets in Spain’s Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura. In December 2021, global consulting firm Enertis Applus+ said it advised Ence to sell 5 solar projects with 373 MW capacity in Andalusia to Naturgy Renovables (see Europe PV News Snippets).
