- ETIP PV project has been relaunched by the ETIP to support EU’s journey to accelerate the uptake of solar PV technology
- It will advise European policymakers and support PV technology’s contribution to the bloc’s solar energy growth
- The project is funded by the EU under Horizon Europe program and will enable the implementation of European solar regulation of the decade
To provide advice to European policymakers and promote solar PV technology in the European Union (EU), the European Technology and Innovation Platform (ETIP) has relaunched its ETIP PV Project which will run from 2022-2025.
ETIP PV is an independent body, recognized by the European Commission (EC) and Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan Steering Group. It will advise European policymakers and promote the update of solar PV technology with an aim to support solar PV sector’s contribution to the SET-Plan.
Comprising experts from the industry and academia, the platform will continue to act as a reference point for EU and member state policy makers for innovation in the solar sector to promote the uptake of this technology. Additionally, it will also collaborate with other organizations as the European Energy Research Alliance and industry bodies as SolarPower Europe (SPE).
“Following the European Commission’s landmark EU Solar Strategy, the renewal of the ETIP PV will support policymakers through the technical design and implementation of the defining European solar regulation of the decade,” stated an official release.
The project is funded by the EU under Horizon Europe program and operated through a Secretariat led by SolarPower Europe in Brussels, Belgium and WIP Renewable Energies in Munich, Germany.
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Europe standing in solidarity with the latter, Europe’s energy crisis is mounting. At the same time, it has forced the EU to take a just and clean energy transition seriously. As part of its REPowerEU strategy, the bloc aims for its solar installations to grow to 600 GW AC/750 GW DC by 2030. The bloc is also discussing to increased the 2030 renewables target to 45% for its total energy mix (see EU One Step Closer To 45% Renewables Target For 2030).
