GUVNL To Re-Tender 800 MW Solar Capacity To Seek Lower Tariffs; NTPC Energizes 140 MW PV Project In Uttar Pradesh; TANGEDCO To Procure 500 MW Solar Power; SolarArise Commissions 75 MW PV Facility

GUVNL to re-tender 800 MW solar capacity: Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) will be holding auctions for 700 MW Dholera Solar Park and 100 MW Raghanesda Solar Park once again, after securing permission from the state power regulator, according to The Economic Times (ET). GUVNL had previously auctioned 700 MW capacity for winning tariffs ranging between INR 2.78 per kWh to INR 2.81 per kWh in August 2020 (see GUVNL Gets INR 2.78/kWh Lowest Tariff In 700 MW Auction). According to ET, SJVN Ltd had secured 100 MW for a INR 2.73 per kWh winning bid. GUVNL has had a change of heart after it discovered the lowest winning solar PV tariff in India, INR 1.99 per kWh for a 500 MW solar auction it concluded in December 2020 (see Historic Low For Indian Solar Tariffs @INR 1.99/kWh).   

NTPC commissions 140 MW solar project: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has commissioned a 140 MW solar power project in Uttar Pradesh (UP). The Bilhaur Solar PV Project at Bilhaur entered commercial operations on January 18, 2021. With this project coming online, NTPC says the total operational power generation capacity of the NTPC Group has risen to 63.265 GW.

TANGEDCO wants solar power: Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has issued a tender inviting bids to purchase solar power under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme (Component-A) from 500 MW PV capacity during 2020-21. The last date for bid submission is February 19, 2021. Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) aims to install 30.8 GW new solar by 2022 (see MNRE Revises Solar target Under PM-KUSUM Scheme).

SolarArise brings 75 MW project online: SolarArise India Projects Private Limited has energized a 75 MW solar project in UP’s Khera village in Budaun district. The company is a solar investment vehicle of impact investor ThomasLloyd and Global Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund (GEEREF). ThomasLloyd said the new project operates under Talettutayi Solar Projects Five Private Limited and holds 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). It is expected to generate close to 120 million kWh annually.
