X-Elio grid connects 58 MW solar in Chile: X-Elio has grid connected 58 MW La Cruz Solar Plant in Chile’s Maria Elena. Built for $40 million investment, the facility will supply solar power to 20,000 homes in the region. With its commissioning, X-Elio said its total installed portfolio in the country has increased to 120 MW.
EDF Renewables wins 100 MW Peru auction: EDF Renewables says it has won the microgrid renewable energy tender of Iquitos in Peru and will construct and operate around 100 MW of solar PV capacity with more than 100 MWh of battery energy storage. It has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Peru’s state-owned electricity distribution company Electro Oriente to supply electricity generated by this capacity at a competitive price than diesel, starting from 2026. Calling Iquitos the largest city in the world that’s not connected to the national grid yet, EDF said the solar and battery storage innovative microgrid project will enable the city to get over its reliance on diesel, helping it offset 405 to 50% of this fossil fuel generation.
“This innovative microgrid solution will enable the city of Iquitos to reduce its consumption of fossil fuels, and also gain protection against oil price volatility. This hybrid solar and battery project is in line with our CAP 2030 strategy which goal is to double, between 2015 and 2030, our global renewable capacities from 28 to 60 GW net,” said EDF Renewables Executive Vice-President International Operations, Frederic Belloy.
Sonnedix purchases 18 MW solar capacity in Chile: Sonnedix has acquired 2 solar PV development projects in Chile with 18 MW combined capacity, from Distributed Power Partners (DPP). The 2 projects are 9 MW Sonnedix Angamos Solar Plant near Mejillones in Antofagasta and 9 MW Sonnedix Quebrada de Talca near Valle de Elqui, Coquimbo. Both the facilities are in advanced stages of development as Sonnedix expects notice-to-proceed within Q1/2022. It added that both the facilities will come up under the country’s distributed generation project regime, PMGD. Sonnedix has growin its Chilean under construction or under development pipeline to more than 1 GW with this acquisition, while its operational capacity in the country adds up to over 234 MW. Globally it has a total capacity of more than 5 GW, comprising a development pipeline of more than 2 GW.
