- EGP’s bifacial solar power plant with 284 MW DC in Texas with 81 MW storage component has secured its 2nd offtaker
- CyrusOne will procure power from 67 MW capacity along with equivalent RECs generated by the project
- This power purchase agreement (PPA) is part of CyrusOne’s corporate strategy to become carbon-free by 2040
Enel Green Power (EGP) has secured global data center real estate investment trust (REIT) CyrusOne Inc. to sell solar power from the 284 MW Azure Sky Solar+Storage Project it is building in Haskell County, Texas, US. CyrusOne will purchase 67 MW clean energy generated by the project along with equivalent renewable energy credits (REC).
Power procured by CyrusOne is equivalent to meeting 100% of power requirement of CyrusOne’s data center facility in Allen, Texas and close to 70% of power requirements for its data center in Carrollton, also in Texas. It committed to retiring project specific renewable attributes from Azure Sky Solar+Storage equal to 100% of power usage at its Dallas headquartered.
“We’ve been transitioning our energy requirements to focus on renewable sources across our data center portfolio and are committed to implementing cutting-edge technologies and strategies that create a more sustainable future,” said CyrusOne’s Senior Director of Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability, Kyle Myers. CyrusOne plans to become a carbon free organization by 2040.
Previously, EGP secured home improvement retailer Home Depot to procure 75 MW of this project’s total capacity. EGP started construction on the 284 MW DC/225 MW AC facility with 81 MW battery energy storage system in October 2020 expecting it to generate 586 GWh annually.
